The best time of year for surfing Agnes Waters with consistent clean waves (rideable swell with light / offshore winds) is during Winter and most often the month of June. You'll find surfable waves during more than half of your stay, unless you're a beginner, then you'll find that it's almost always surfs up at 1770. Contact one of the nearby surf schools to get started, or click here to find the ideal swell if you're a pro.
Discover the beauty of Joseph Banks Conservation Park on this bush walking adventure. Throughout the autumn and winter months, you will notice the magnificent blue tiger butterflies as they flock to the Town of 1770 during their migration. The walk starts at the Captain Cook Monument, taking you along the shoreline of Round Hill Creek for approximately 1.2 kilometres. The track leads to the 1770 Headland which offers spectacular views overlooking Bustard Bay.
A short drive from 1770 will land you at Baffle Creek, one of the country's best and most secluded fishing spots. This area boasts over 77 fish species as well as 10 crustacean species. Bream, Whiting, Flathead, Grunter, Salmon, Cod, Jewfish, Prawns, Crabs, Barramundi, Mangrove Jack, Queen Fish, Trevally and Tarpon are only some of the local species you'll find here.
One of the best things about kayaking is the serenity. No engine noise, just you and your kayak, the water and the sun. And maybe some curious dolphins or pelicans. Are you ready for a real kayak adventure? Make sure to book into 1770 Liquid Adventures before you stay.
Take the easy 15-minute walking trail from Sir Raphael Cilento Drive up to 1770 Headland for unforgettable views over Bustard Bay and the ocean. Set your alarm clock and do the walk early: you'll be rewarded by a glorious sunrise set to the soundtrack of the local kookaburras morning chorus. For a more romantic experience, head down at dusk to watch the sun set over the ocean.
